Welcome All To My Blog
April 17, 2024

Welcome to my website. I hope that you will enjoy the content as much as I have enjoyed adding the content. My name is Kent. I was born in Burbank California in 1949. Pretty old huh? I have had an interesting life filled with many interests and hobbies.

Some of these hobbies eventually grew into careers as I became more adept at the skills and knowledge that I learned from trial and error.

I worked for my father, who was a General Contractor in California, from the time I was eight years old until I got my own contractor’s license in 1979. After working for several years as a General Contractor, I found that I really enjoyed the hands-on woodworking aspect of the trade. My wife and I would visit furniture stores and select furniture that we thought was “our” style, and I would build our own furniture to duplicate (with our own twist) what we had found in the stores. We went through many phases of furniture. What I called the “pine” phase, then the “oak” phase, followed by the “cherry” , “alder”, and “painted” phase.

Each phase had its own particular style, and I really enjoyed changing the building technique required by each phase. From dovetails https://amzn.to/48TZRod to mortise and tenon https://amzn.to/3Tmtitu , to Lamello biscuits, https://amzn.to/3vgaKmD to Festool dominos. https://amzn.to/3TDVsBi

I eventually opened my own cabinet shop, and that was the work I enjoyed the most. I got to design with the clients, then got to transform their kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, dining room, or whatever room they decided into something beautiful.

During this time period, I was lucky enough to be able to visit Sam Maloof’s workshop twice. He was a famous California woodworker who’s furniture has been in the White House, in the Vatican, and in several museums. https://amzn.to/4aajKIG I also has a chance to meet James Krenov https://amzn.to/3IG1ag4 and see many of his woodworking projects. Unfortunately both of these great woodworkers have since passed on, and will be sorely missed.
